Strong Australia - Toowoomba

Toowoomba will host the next Strong Australia community forum run by the Business Council of Australia in conjunction with Sky News.

The forum will take place on Thursday 27 September and involve a community lunch from 12.30pm to 2.30pm and a live TV discussion program broadcast from 8.00pm to 9.00pm – both hosted by award-winning Sky News Political Editor David Speers.

The lunchtime forum will feature Business Council chief executive Jennifer Westacott, EnergyAustralia managing director Catherine Tanna, WSP Australia & New Zealand president and chief executive Guy Templeton, Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA) chief executive Peter Strong, and Wagner Corporation director Denis Wagner.

The forum will focus on investing in growth and attracting investment to regional towns.

“We’re in Toowoomba to have a conversation about how and why business is the lifeblood of our communities, and when business thrives, the community and Australia thrives,” Ms Westacott said.

“Business – big and small – are the mainstay of communities by providing jobs, opportunities, investments, and responding to change.

“The objective of the Strong Australia series is to travel outside the city centres of Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra and talk to Australians about the issues that matter most to them.

“Business employs over 10 million people in Australia – if we want to keep that job creation happening, we need to create the right opportunities for them, especially in our regions.”

The Toowoomba forum is part of a series of events taking place across the country bringing together the expertise of some of the area’s largest employers, business leaders, small business owners and community leaders that help make Australia tick.
